How We Measure Heart Rate

Measuring your resting heart rate - the number of times your heart beats per minute at rest -  is an easy way to gauge your overall well-being. For most adults, a normal resting heart rate ranges from 60-100 beats per minute (BPM). A lower resting heart rate typically indicates better heart and cardiovascular health, however a normal heart rate can vary from person to person.

To measure your heart rate, find your pulse (the side of the neck or front of the wrist are the easiest spots), then count the number of beats in 30 seconds. Double this number to get your heart rate. To get the most accurate reading, we recommend measuring your heart rate right when you wake up or after you’ve been resting.
